Affenpinschers were originally ratters, removing rodents from kitchens and similar undesired places. Affenpinschers need regular grooming because of their thick coat. The affenpinscher originated in Germany during the seventeenth century. While similar to terriers, affenpinschers are actually part of the pinscher-schnauzer group of dog breeds.
