We think he would be best as an only dog in an adult only home, so he is the center of your world the way he prefers things to be. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ SMOKEY'S ENTIRE BIO TO HELP YOU DETERMINE IF HE MIGHT BE THE THE PERFECT LITTLE GUY FOR YOUR FAMILY! Hi! I'm Smokey #3444 and I want to tell you about me. I am an approx. 6 yr. old - 14 lb. neutered Affenpinscher mix with a long lean low to the ground carriage. I am super lovable and would rather sit in your lap or next to you on the couch than anything else. I ride well in the car, do well at the vets and groomers, but I dislike getting my nails clipped. I walk okay on a leash and I am tolerant of cats. I am not a morning dog, it takes me a little while to come out of my kennel, but then I am all about you. I think I would do great at agility with the right training, I am quick on my feet and have an amazing leap and 'high' energy. I prefer my foster 'mommy's' slippers to toys. She always asks what her slipper ever did to me. So, she said when I find my furever home I can have them. My foster parents love me sooo much they want me to get the best home ever. I just want a hooman I can love and who will love me back!! Kisses!!!!! Okay, Smokey, let me tell them about you now. He is neglectful in telling of his not so endearing habits, although they could be to someone. Could that someone be you? He was an owner surrender due to food aggression issues. He also doesn't quite get along with some of his foster siblings at times (then again who always gets along with everyone all the time), but for the most part he is quite good. He is housebroken, but there might be some lapse in judgement due to new surroundings. He is right, he's not a morning dog, but once he's up and moving you will probably need to give him a treat to go outside because all he wants to do is be with you. He kennels up at night, gets a night time treat, and settles down quickly once the lights go out. He will take treats from you just fine, by placing it directly into his mouth. He does not like to be made to do something he doesn't want to do, so a bribe can be necessary. One thing you will never have to bribe him to do is get up into your lap and nuzzle you. It is the one thing he wants to do most. He really does have a lovable personality and sweet face. We do love him and we want him to have a home that will continue to work with him and love him for who he is. Flaws and all. . We have worked with a canine behaviorist on teaching him to mind his Ps and Qs, so to speak. You could say he's a special needs in that sense, lol!! We have been working on when he does something you want him to do, tell him yes and offer him a food bit. When he does something wrong he gets a quick spray to the face and when he stops the behavior he gets a yes and a food bit. (Less)

Affenpinscher Dogs can make good pets in Maryland if they match your IifestyIe. Affenpinschers get along well with other pets when they all grow up together. Affenpinschers play around a lot, and can be both inquisitive and mischievous. Quick learners, affenpinschers can be trained easily, though they prefer variety in training methods so they do not get bored. An affenpinscher needs to be trained in a firm and confident manner.
